GKY understands that river basin plans must often satisfy conflicting objectives – for example, low reservoir water storage is ideal for flood control, while high storage is preferable for ensuring water supply. We develop models that quantify the trade-offs between competing priorities and develop operating rules that allow clients to meet varied goals.
Our experience includes:
- »
Muskingum River Basin Optimization Study for the Huntington District of the US Army Corps of Engineers. GKY developed a river basin simulation model to illustrate the complex interactions between various reservoir functions (flood control, water supply, recreation, minimum instream flow, etc.) and recommended system-wide operating rules.
-
- »
Shepaug River Study. GKY helped solve a water resources dispute by creating a detailed river basin model for the Shepaug River and portions of the Naugatuck River, recommending system-wide reservoir operating rules, and serving as an expert witness during trial.
