GKY & Associates, Inc. (GKY), an established water resources engineering, policy & planning, and environmental services consulting firm in Virginia, is currently seeking to add a GIS Analyst to its growing northern Virginia practice in the water resources arena. This position will be based in GKY’s Chantilly, Virginia office.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will provide technical assistance for our water resources projects. Many of our projects serve public sector clients, which requires a high level of service and quality. If you are a detail-oriented, highly motivated individual, this is an opportunity to grow professionally through the execution of the following roles and responsibilities for this position.

Provide GIS leadership in water resources and regulatory compliance consulting including:

  • Support GKY’s corporate GIS goals and initiatives, including but not limited to the following:
    • Establish and apply policies and procedures to GIS data for routine quality control and quality assurance to ensure data accuracy and integrity
    • Maintain municipal datasets to ensure accurate geographic information is available to project tasks as needed
    • Provide training and technical support to personnel on the use of GIS applications, design, or other mapping requirements
    • Evaluate new/developing technologies and software packages
  • Support GKY’s GIS analysis and mapping capabilities, including but not limited to the following:
    • Communicate with project team members and clients to identify project requirements and desired products
    • Develop GIS applications and tools for collecting and reporting data
      Upon request, respond to inquiries for technical stormwater management information such as maps, summary tables, reports, and infrastructure data
    • Review GIS and database work products to ensure their accuracy and compatibility with existing GIS data
    • Develop drainage areas for SWM BMP facilities and MS4 regulated outfalls
  • Provide MS4 permit program development and implementation support
  • Participate in company field assignments, supporting field teams’ data collection and investigation work for infrastructure inspection and reporting as needed


Required Qualifications:

  • 4 to 8 years of GIS experience
  • BA/BS in geography, engineering, or environmental science related field
  • Strong proficiency with ArcGIS and ArcGIS online, data analysis, and application development, including mobile applications
  • Proficiency in data management and security and database development and implementation, including geodatabases supporting GIS applications
  • Experience in producing high-quality cartographic maps and project graphics
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing
  • Ability and desire to perform fieldwork in difficult terrain and year-round weather conditions
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Authorized to work in the United States


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Python programming
  • Experience with Clean Water Act programming compliance and implementation, with specific experience with MS4 and TMDL programming
  • Experience working with local government
  • DEQ Stormwater Management (SWM) Inspector certification
  • Experience reading site plans and facility design details
